Kendo is the art and the sport in Japan. Kendo means 'the way of sword'. Kendo emphasizes both of the moral and spirit trainning. Even if kendo doesn't participate in the Olympic games, it is the one art of sword fighting that base on the traditional Japanese swordsmanship. Kendo began since the earliest samurai government in Japan . In this period, kendo was developed under the strong power of Zen buddhism. Latterly, some of swordsmen established the school of Kenjutsu that taught from the basic of kendo practice. Kendo became the popular sport in Japan after the World War II. In 1952, The All Japan Kendo Federation was established. The world Kendo Championship was arranged every three years.
